Myers Ready to Officially Abandon Medford Taxpayers

Reports Indicate former Mayor has no Plans to Even Serve Term

According to a report today in the leading online source for New Jersey politics, www.politickernj.com, State Senator Phil Haines is expected to receive a nomination to become a judge this year and the leading candidate to replace him is current Councilman and former Medford Mayor Chris Myers.

Myers, who is seeking re-election to the Medford Township Council, could presumably ascend to the Senate as the hand-picked successor of the powerful Burlington County Republican Machine before ever even taking the oath of office again in Medford.

"Why is Myers even running?" asked Sean Kennedy, Medford Democratic Committee Chairman.  "Does he want to be a Congressman?  Does he want to be a State Senator?  One thing is clear, he has no interest in cutting taxes or spending in Medford based on his record.  If today's reports are accurate he could go to the Senate before he is even sworn in for another term in Medford.  This would indicate he is merely running to try to hold the seat so he can move up to the Senate and the Medford Republicans can appoint someone to fill his seat.  The residents deserve better."

"Today's report on www.politickernj.com indicates that Myers is the front runner to succeed Phil Haines in the State Senate and indicates that this could happen in the very near future.  If Myers wants to pursue a career in Washington or Trenton he should withdraw from the Medford race immediately.  Medford residents deserve a Council comprised of dedicated individuals committed to Medford.  Not Trenton.  Not Washington.  Myers has collected nearly $40,000 in taxpayer funded salary from the residents of Medford and shows absolutely no interest in serving them," said Kennedy.

From the report on www.politickernj.com: "Former Medford Mayor Christopher Myers, who ran a strong race against Adler in 2008, is not expected to run.  Instead, he is expected to move to a State Senate seat later this year after Philip Haines becomes a Superior Court Judge."

"Under Chris Myers, Medford residents have seen their taxes increase by 31% and spending increase by $8 million dollars.  He has every right to seek higher office, he just shouldn't be doing it at Medford's expense.  Based on his record, he has abdicated his responsibility as a Medford elected official and should withdraw from the race immediately, said Kennedy.
